About Us

A Rug Education Association

ORRA was formed in 1969 to help bring high standards and ethical practices to the business of selling fine hand knotted and woven rugs.  Over the years ORRA has become known throughout the country as the organization to depend upon for reliable rug information.  The organization has served its members for decades providing information and support for retailing fine carpets.

ORRA developed the Certified Rug Appraiser program in 1979. It is an exhaustive examination that certifies an individual to be an appraiser of oriental rugs.  CRA’s are accepted as experts by the banking and insurance industries across the US and Canada.  In addition, ORRA works with most state attorneys general regarding the problems of deceptive and fraudulent sales of rugs.

ORRA is a group of like-minded rug retailers who sell and service quality rugs and carpet.  We are committed to mutual benefits along the value chain from our vendors, interior designers and to the final consumer.

Our Philosophy

The more you know about Oriental rugs, the more you trust your ORRA dealer.

ORRA was formed to bring high standards and ethical practices to a business fraught with itinerant sales and misinformation.  Over the years, ORRA has become known throughout the country as the organization to depend upon for reliable Oriental rug information.

ORRA developed the Certified Rug Appraiser Program.  This program certifies an appraiser of oriental rugs after an exacting examination consisting of both written and visual identification of a wide variety of rugs.  This program has been so successful that our CRA’s are accepted as experts by the banking and insurance industries in the U.S.A., and Canada, and by most, if not all, states.

In another area, we work closely with our members in the Consumer Protection Program.  We are in contact with most state attorney generals regarding the problem of fraudulent sales, Going-Out-of-Business-Sales, deceptive advertising practices, etc.
